Former Phoenix Suns player Rex Chapman, drafted 8th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 1988 NBA draft, was arrested on Friday, September 19th by detectives in Scottsdale, Arizona. Chapman is accused of stealing more than $14,000 worth of merchandise from an Apple Store located at 15169 N. Scottsdale Road. He is facing a total of 13 felonies, consisting of 9 counts of organized retail theft and five counts of trafficking in stolen property.
Apple Store employees reported 7 incidents of theft over the past few months related to Chapman, whom several employees recognized from his days with the Phoenix Suns. Chapman is alleged to have pretended to use the store's self-checkout and then left without actually paying for the merchandise. Police suspect that Chapman then sold the stolen goods to a local pawn shop.
Rex Chapman played for four different NBA teams over twelve seasons, with career averages of 14.6 points and 2.7 assists per game.
